There are many reasons a person needs to plan ahead.

I've been trying to help many friends come to understand that we all need to plan for the unforeseen occurrences that befall us all.

What does that mean? Well, as we are sailing smoothly along with our lives, there tends to be obstacles that arise from time to time. We must plan now for when those times do arrive. Most call it a plan of action, or plan B.

I just finished another book today, and have taken an excerpt from that book and wanted to share it with you.

The Second Half of Your Life

"There is another reason to develop a second major interest, and to develop it early. No one can expect to live very long without experiencing a serious setback in his or her life or work.

There is the competent engineer who is passed over for promotion at age 45. There is the competent college professor who realizes at age 42 that she will never get a professorship at a big university, even though she may be fully qualified for it.

There are tragedies in one’s family life: the breakup of one’s marriage or the loss of a child. At such times, a second major interest—not just a hobby—may make all the difference.

The engineer, for example, now knows that he has not been very successful in his job. But in his outside activity—as church treasurer, for example—he is a success.

One’s family may break up, but in that outside activity there is still a community."

What will you do if something happens to your only source of income?

I write this post today, because I invite everyone to join with me in making a difference in our lives and the lives of everyone around us. Some people are just to stuck in a rut. They are used to doing the same old thing day in and day out not every thinking about the chance of losing their jobs.

Or maybe they are afraid of true success.

Whatever the excuse is, start now in creating something to fall back on. Create your plan B today. Who knows, you may end up really loving this new supplemental income and it may even replace your current occupation. Either way, an additional source of income, or as I look at it "Multiple streams of income" have never hurt a human but only lessens the burdens and stresses most of us face.
